Why do so many Indigenous programs and policies fail?
Because governments do not listen to their own experts or to the communities affected.
Recently reports from community consultations and the Commonwealth Government's own advisers have identified what works. Effective policies and programs work with collaborative input and genuine partnerships. Governments continue to ignore their own experts' advice of what works in these areas. New initiatives, such as the Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS), are again top down and decided without community expertise and involvement.
